Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by low body weight, distorted body image, and an intense fear of gaining weight. It most commonly affects adolescent females aged 16–26, although it can occur in males as well.

Body Mass Index (BMI) is one of the physical indicators used when evaluating anorexia risk. A BMI below 17.5 may indicate possible anorexia-related conditions.

Classification based on BMI:

Mild: < 17.5
Moderate: 16 – 16.99
Severe: 15 – 15.99
Extreme: < 15

A BMI below 13.5 can lead to organ failure, while BMI below 12 can be life-threatening.

However, BMI alone cannot diagnose anorexia, and medical evaluation is always required.
